BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN SCIENCE AND SOCIETY
with community-powered citizen science
ABOUT CITIZEN SCIENCE
Citizen science involves volunteers from the general public actively participating in scientific research by collecting and analyzing data or engaging in experiments.

This inclusive approach spans various fields, including environmental monitoring and conservation, wildlife observation, space exploration, and public health research. By harnessing the collective power of curious citizens (of the world), citizen science not only expands the scope of scientific investigations but also promotes public awareness, education, and a deeper connection between science and society.

The National Marine Sanctuary saved $1.15M, equivalent to 20 full-time federal employees (36,020 hours), through citizen science programs and volunteer support in 2023.
